Widal Test for Typhoid

The Widal Test is a laboratory test used to diagnose infections caused by the bacterium Salmonella. It measures the level of antibodies in a patient's blood against specific strains of Salmonella that cause typhoid and paratyphoid fevers.

• How does the widal test do?

  During the test, a blood sample is taken and mixed with a solution containing the antigens of Salmonella typhi and Salmonella paratyphi. If the patient has been previously exposed to these bacteria and has developed antibodies, a visible reaction will occur.
