TTG Test (IgA and IgG)

The TTG test (IgA and IgG) is a combination of two blood tests that help in the diagnosis of celiac disease. Celiac disease is a chronic autoimmune disorder that affects the digestive system, caused by the intolerance to gluten, a protein found in wheat, barley, and rye. The TTG test measures the levels of IgA and IgG antibodies produced by the body in response to the presence of gluten in the small intestine. Elevated levels of these antibodies indicate the possibility of celiac disease. The IgA antibodies are more specific to celiac disease, but in some cases, the body may produce IgG antibodies instead of IgA antibodies, making the IgG test necessary.

• To whom the TTG test advised?

  This test is recommended for individuals who have symptoms of celiac disease such as diarrhoea, abdominal pain, bloating, and fatigue, or those who have a family history of celiac disease. The test requires a simple blood draw and is usually performed on an outpatient basis.

  When the TTG test result available?

  The results of the TTG test are typically available within a few days. In addition to the TTG test, a biopsy of the small intestine is often necessary to confirm the diagnosis of celiac disease. Early detection and management of celiac disease are crucial to preventing complications such as malnutrition, osteoporosis, and an increased risk of certain types of cancer.
