Lyme Disease Antibody IgM Test

The Lyme Disease Antibody IgM Test is a blood test that is used to detect antibodies to the Lyme disease bacteria. The test is performed by taking a blood sample from a vein in your arm. The results of the test can be positive, negative, or indeterminate. A positive result means that you have antibodies to the Lyme disease bacteria. A negative result means that you do not have antibodies to the Lyme disease bacteria. An indeterminate result means that the test results are not clear.

The Lyme Disease Antibody IgM Test is most accurate when it is performed within 2–4 weeks after you have been bitten by an infected tick. However, the test can also be positive if you have been infected with Lyme disease for a longer period of time.

If you have a positive Lyme disease blood test, your doctor will likely recommend further testing, such as a Western blot test. A Western blot test is more specific than the Lyme Disease Antibody IgM Test, and it can help to confirm a positive result.
