  • In case one is suspected of autoimmune diseases,
  • In the case the case of symptoms such as inflammation, chronic pain, degenerative changes to bones (seen on X-ray)

What is arthritis?

Inflammation of joints is referred to as arthritis. This condition can affect one or multiple joints. The two most common forms of arthritis include osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis.

What are the symptoms of arthritis?

The symptoms of arthritis include lasting joint pain, swelling in joints, stiffness in joints, tenderness or pain when touching a joint, problems while movement, and warmth and redness in the joint. Older citizens are at a greater risk for arthritis because of the weakening of bones.

What causes arthritis?

Rheumatoid arthritis occurs when the body’s immune cells cannot recognise the lining of membranes surrounding the joints (synovium) as itself. The immune cells attack the synovium, resulting in inflammation of the joints, which further can destroy cartilage and bone of that joint.

What is osteoarthritis?

Osteoarthritis is commonly found in older people. It starts when cartilage becomes old, torn and wears away. The cartilage prevents friction between the joints, as it normally pads up the joints. When the cartilage is damaged, the joints rub against each other, causing friction, which results in stiffness and pain.

What is rheumatoid arthritis?

Rheumatoid arthritis is a disorder in which there is mainly chronic inflammation of the joints. Other body systems such as skin, eyes, lungs, blood vessels, and heart are also affected by this disorder.
